What to Expect at Your First Accounting Consultation

Sitting across from an accountant — or joining a video call — for the first time can feel intimidating. What do they need to know? What will they judge? What should you ask?

The truth is that accountants have seen every financial situation imaginable, and their job is to help, not to evaluate you. This guide tells you exactly what to expect so you walk in (or log in) with confidence.

Before the Meeting: What to Prepare

The more organised you are going into the consultation, the more value you get out of it. Here is what to gather:

Business Documents

  • DTI / SEC registration certificate
  • BIR Certificate of Registration (Form 2303)
  • Mayor's Permit / Business Permit
  • Any BIR correspondence, notices, or Letters of Authority

Financial Records

  • Bank statements for the past 3–6 months
  • Sales records or invoices issued
  • Expense receipts or records
  • Payroll records (if you have employees)
